Federal M.P. David McGuinty relayed my questions  to Tony Clement, then-federal Minister for Industry, but the answers received from Tony Clement’s office were dismissive and un-clear. In particular I note the part of the response glibly referring to “...people who have given up looking for work for various reasons...”- with no evidence to support the statement that the people affected had actually “given up”. This seems to me to be an instance of a designation being conflated with a description, without any factual basis.

These have been referred to under a previous section, “2.3. Popular disinformation and myths about people out of work in Canada.”
